Meet Dr. Nader Ehsani

Dr. Nader Ehsani is a board-certified orthodontist and dentofacial orthopedist at Elite Orthodontics Group in San Diego, treating both children and adults.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a Diamond+ Invisalign® provider, and one of only a few orthodontists in the country who is also a professionally trained engineer, a background that shapes his precise, biomechanics-driven approach to every smile.

For more than a decade of clinical practice, Dr. Ehsani has built his reputation in San Diego on one idea: that careful diagnosis and modern technique, applied with genuine attention to each person, produce results that last.

At Elite Orthodontics Group, he leads a team dedicated to making expert orthodontic care feel personal, clear, and comfortable from the first consultation to the final smile.

Board-Certified Orthodontist and Dentofacial Orthopedist

Dr. Ehsani has distinguished himself by becoming board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, the oldest and one of the most respected specialty boards in dentistry. Board certification is voluntary.

It means an orthodontist has chosen to be evaluated by expert peers, both in writing and through the presentation of completed cases, to demonstrate advanced knowledge, clinical skill, and an ongoing commitment to excellence. As a Diplomate of the Board, Dr. Ehsani treats children and adults across the full scope of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

Education and Training

Dr. Ehsani grew up in New York and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he also completed double minor studies in periodontology, pediatric dentistry, and community service.

He then completed his specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the prestigious Department of Orthodontics at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

His training carries a remarkable lineage. Dr. Ehsani studied under Professor Emeritus J. Daniel Subtelny, who chaired the department for more than 60 years and was himself a student of Dr. Allan Brodie, who trained under Dr. Edward Angle, widely regarded as the father of modern orthodontics.

That direct line to the foundations of the specialty gave Dr. Ehsani the tools to treat the full range of cases, from everyday alignment to complex surgical and craniofacial care.

An Orthodontist and an Engineer

What sets Dr. Ehsani apart is a second discipline. He is also a professionally trained engineer, having earned his Bachelor of Science in engineering at 18 after graduating from high school at 14.

As an engineer, he developed a habit of precise, evidence-based decision-making, balancing biomechanics against facial growth and structure. In orthodontics, that mindset translates directly into treatment plans that move teeth efficiently and predictably, with the finished bite and the patient’s facial balance both in mind from day one.

Medicine runs deep in his family. Dr. Ehsani was born while his mother was a medical student, and his immediate family includes several physicians and dentists, including an older sister who is a distinguished neonatologist in Los Angeles. That upbringing shaped both his scientific rigor and the patient-first values he brings to the practice. Dr. Ehsani and his wife have two young children of their own.

Advanced Technology and Techniques

Dr. Ehsani treats with the most current evidence-based methods and technology available. His care includes digital imaging and 3D focused-field cone beam CT imaging, which let him evaluate the entire orofacial complex, plan with precision, and communicate clearly with patients and dental colleagues.

He has extensive training in surgical orthodontics and in craniofacial differences such as cleft lip and palate, and he offers the full range of contemporary options, from braces to clear aligners. As a Diamond+ Invisalign provider, he offers patients one of the highest levels of clear-aligner experience available.

His approach to airway and growth is just as deliberate. By reading the whole picture rather than the teeth alone, he can fold airway-focused orthodontics into a treatment plan when a patient’s breathing or jaw development calls for it.

Research, Teaching, and Lecturing

Dr. Ehsani has been active in orthodontic research and development for more than a decade, publishing and presenting his work, including research connected with the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. His senior thesis, a morphometric study of form change adjacent to missing posterior teeth in the lower jaw, was published following peer review, and he has served as a beta tester for a prominent orthodontic manufacturer.

He is also a dedicated educator. Dr. Ehsani has been an invited speaker across the United States, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South and Central America, and he is a specialist member of several San Diego County study clubs. As a regular speaker in a local continuing-education lecture series, he teaches fellow dentists and specialists about advances in contemporary orthodontics, including how new techniques and technology can be put to work in the modern dental office. He believes strongly that patients treat best when they understand their options, so teaching is part of how he practices every day.

Recognition and Service

Dr. Ehsani has been named a Top Doctor in San Diego Magazine’s annual peer-voted review for many years, an honor decided by fellow dentists. He is a specialist member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, and the San Diego County Dental Society.

He has also treated thousands of patients from the military community, including members of the Department of the Navy in San Diego, and has received a certificate of appreciation from military family members for that care, a recognition he deeply values.

Giving Back to the Community

Service is woven through Dr. Ehsani’s practice. He and his team have run numerous long-distance races in San Diego to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and they have provided volunteer dental and orthodontic care, pro bono, for underserved children in San Diego County and neighboring communities in Mexico. Through the foundations of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists, he has helped identify children in need and has treated young patients from refugee centers who overcame extraordinary odds. Care Built Around Understanding

Dr. Ehsani is an educator as much as a clinician, and he believes patients make their best decisions when they truly understand them. He takes the time to answer every question about treatment, to explain the options in plain language, and to walk each patient through the plan that fits their specific situation and goals. From the first consultation to the final result, his aim is the most predictable, comfortable path to a beautiful, healthy smile.

That philosophy carries through to the team he has built and the way the office runs. Dr. Ehsani designed his practice around the best of contemporary orthodontics: skilled, well-trained clinical and administrative staff, modern bracket systems and materials, and equipment that supports precise, efficient care. He treats his team like family, and that warmth is something patients feel the moment they walk in. The result is care that is technically excellent and genuinely personal, which is exactly what his many five-star reviews from patients and peers reflect.
